Welcome to my blog! My name is Chris. I created this blog to help me grow as a hobbyist photographer. Follow me on my journey to become more than just a snapshot taker, and who knows…maybe we can teach each other a thing or two along the way!
If you are just starting out in photography, like me, or getting back into it after a long hiatus…then this blog will hopefully show you the steps that I’m taking to try to get better. Feel free to ask me any questions that you may have…from one beginner to another.
And if you are a more experienced photographer, then I strongly encourage you to provide comments and criticisms on my work. Take part in this community by becoming a mentor to all of us newbies. Help me, and all the others following this blog, to become better photographers.
About me…
I’ve been fascinated with photography for as long as I can remember. I’ve always enjoyed taking pictures of the world around me. My first real exposure to photography was in a high school artistic media class, where we used film cameras and were taught how to develop our pictures inside a darkroom. It was so much fun! But it wasn’t until I started winter hiking that my passion for photography truly sparked. The views were just so breathtaking; I wanted to capture those moments forever. I needed something that could take me back to all these great places at a moment’s notice.
It was about three years ago that I bought my DSLR camera, and I’ve been enjoying taking pictures with it ever since. I’ve bought some additional gear over the last couple years, and have read countless instructional books on photography. My only problem is that I’m the kind of person that needs a little *push* to keep up with my hobbies…it’s all too easy for me to come home after a long day at work, take my dog for a walk, and then just zone out in front of the TV for the rest of the night. I’m hoping this blog will be my new driving force to keep me going. I’m now ready to actually start using all the things I’ve learned from books and actually get out there to take more pictures so that I can become more than just a snapshot taker.
What kind of pictures do I like to take? I’m most interested in close-ups of nature (flowers, bugs, etc.) and landscapes. This stuff really moves me, and I think that I’m generally okay at taking these kinds of pictures. However, I would really like to begin taking more pictures of people. I think the main reason I don’t photograph people very often is largely caused by my lack of confidence with the camera. I dread asking strangers for their time, when there is a high probability that the outcome will be extremely boring or, even worse, unflattering. As I get better, I hope my confidence grows and I’m more willing to take these kinds of pictures.
